Molly McCall

LIFE AND WORK

I am a self-taught artist whose material-driven practice has developed through decades of making, looking, and experimentation.

My work explores memory, observation, and the ways experience is altered through time. Moving between photography, painting, drawing, and collage, I work intuitively with paper, pigment, found materials, photographic traces, and simple forms—allowing the physical properties of materials and the process of making to reveal unexpected relationships.

Alongside my independent art practice, I spent more than twenty years working professionally in textile and fashion design. That experience continues to inform my work through color, tactility, repetition, pattern, construction, and an instinctive understanding of materials.

Increasingly, I am interested in the handmade object as evidence: the cut, fold, seam, mark, interruption, and imperfection that record the act of making. Rather than beginning with a fixed image or outcome, I work through observation and accumulation, allowing meaning to emerge through the process itself.
